Taking place on the UTC campus during the weeks of June 10-14 and June 17-21, the UTC Summer Pedagogy and Conducting Institutes are for music educators and ensemble directors hoping to improve and refine their conducting and rehearsal techniques while learning from nationally and internationally recognized clinicians.

The extent and importance of Katherine Goforth Elverd’s accomplishments on and off the UTC campus is being noticed. Chattanooga’s Chatter magazine selected Elverd, professor and director of the music therapy degree program at UTC, to its 2023 ‘20 Under 40’ list.
UTC revamps, restarts master’s degree in music program
The redesigned master’s degree in music program at UTC will make it easier for graduate students who also are full-time teachers to earn master’s degrees. The program offers both face-to-face and online classes. In-person courses begin with the UTC Summer Pedagogy and Conducting Institutes’ one-week sessions in June.
Kodály training gives students a connection to music
The Kodály Institute at UTC is a summer professional development institute for music educators who want to pick up new teaching methods to bring back to their own students.
New program uses music to treat mental and physical issues
The new, four-year Music Therapy program is the first of its kind at the university. A board-certified therapist, Katie Goforth Elverd, helped create the program.
