For the fifth consecutive year, the Rocket Mocs have qualified for the NASA United Student Launch Initiative (USLI) Challenge. The team has to build a rocket that can reach an altitude of at least 4,000 feet—but no higher than 6,000 feet—for their competition launch.

UTC hosting conversations on “Changing the World with Stories”
A pair of best-selling authors are coming to UTC for a conversation exploring how storytelling can broaden perspectives. National Book Award winner Colum McCann, author of the New York Times bestseller “Let the Great World Spin,” and Ishmael Beah, a Quill Award-nominated author and human rights activist, will participate in a panel discussion called “Changing the World with Stories” from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24, in the University Center Auditorium.
Rocket Mocs make NASA competition for sixth straight year
The Rocket Mocs team has earned NASA recognition as one of the best in the country for a fifth consecutive year. The team is again competing in the NASA Student Launch Challenge, a nine-month-long competition in which student teams from across the U.S. design, build, test and launch high-powered rockets carrying scientific or engineering payloads.

Mi campus es su campus: UTC to host first Spanish speaking tour
For the first time in its history, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will offer Spanish-language campus tours starting this month. The inaugural guided tour, led by UTC students, will take place at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25. Buses will pick up prospective high school students and their families at 4 p.m. from La Paz Chattanooga—located at 809 S. Willow St.—and a trio of local high schools: The Howard School, Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy and East Ridge High School.

Dr. Ahad Nasab has been appointed interim dean of the UTC College of Engineering and Computer Science. Nasab has been head of the Department of Engineering Management and Technology and Burkett Miller Chair of Excellence since coming to UTC in 2018.
Rocket Mocs member recovers from burns while team recovers from setback to enter NASA competition
Dottie McSpadden knew her arm was burned, but it didn’t feel that bad. At least not at first. A couple of hours later, though, she’d changed her mind. “Oh, it was a nine out of 10,” she said. “I have not felt pain like that.”
