Often referred to as “the fun week” by college students, the first week of school is usually the time to catch up with friends after winter break while easing into classes. UTC likes to aid in the fun atmosphere with a week’s worth of events to give students a warm winter welcome beginning Monday, Jan. 8.
UTC mourns passing of former Chancellor Bill Stacy
Dr. Bill Stacy, chancellor of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga from 1997 to 2004, passed away in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on Jan. 4 , 2024.
Home sweet home: Students return to UTC for the spring semester
The opening of UTC residence halls on Friday, Jan. 5, brought the first group of students back to campus for the start of the spring 2024 semester.
Two solo acts: Music, Theatre to operate own departments
Thanks to programmatic innovations in both divisions, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Department of Performing Arts is being dissolved and replaced with a pair of autonomous units. When students return to campus for the spring 2024 semester, they will come back to the Department of Theatre and the Department of Music.
Mocs Recovery Program earns national accreditation
The Mocs Recovery Program, a collaboration between the Center for Wellbeing and the Counselor Education Program, has been fully accredited through the Association of Recovery in Higher Education’s Standardized Review for Collegiate Recovery Advancement. As a result of the ARHE review, the Mocs Recovery Program received the designation of a “fully reviewed program” with an overall score of 92%.
UTC helps vet transition from the military to a civilian career in IT
Noah Syler, who graduated from the UTC BAS-IT CyS degree program in December 2023, will start working as a systems programmer at EPB in 2024.
Collage experience: Professors team up to create a huge collection of art
Ron Buffington, UC Foundation professor in painting and drawing, and Matt Greenwell, UC Foundation professor in graphic design, have been working on a collage to fill 8×16-foot walls.
Marching Mocs travel to London for New Year’s Day parade
Ninety-two Marching Mocs band members will travel to London on Wednesday, Dec. 27, to participate in the London New Year’s Day Parade. The parade will be broadcast in the U.S. on PBS stations starting at 7 a.m. EST.
Dr. Artanya Wesley appointed Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs
Dr. Artanya Wesley has been appointed the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s next vice chancellor of enrollment management and student affairs. Wesley, who will assume her new duties on Feb. 5, comes to UTC from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where she has served as vice chancellor for student affairs since 2019.
