Renaissance 2.0: Why you should study humanities at UTC
The humanities are an interdisciplinary field of study that explores the human experience through the lens of history, literature, philosophy, art, languages and other disciplines. The undergraduate humanities program at UTC is customizable, allowing students to choose almost any classes for their nine hours of electives.

Jeremy Huw Williams, a Welsh baritone opera singer who also is known for his work in contemporary classical music, will perform at the Cadek Recital Hall on the UTC campus on Tuesday, Sept. 19.
Students earn first place awards in statewide journalism competition
Seniors Allie English and Eli Rushing recently won 2023 Excellence in Broadcasting Awards from the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters. English was recognized for her short documentary, “Raising Wolves,” and Rushing was honored for his audio version of “Heather’s Story.”
UTC to welcome Summitt Cyclists during Pedal for Pat campaign
Basketball Hall of Famer Michelle Marciniak is among the Summitt Cyclists currently on a 1,098-mile, 12-day Pedal for Pat charity cycling trek. The tour will bring them to the UTC campus on Wednesday, Sept. 20.

RAM tough: Volunteer opportunity brings UTC students, staff and faculty together ‘to make an impact and be engaged in the community’
Over the weekend of Sept. 9-10, volunteers around the region offered their services to the Remote Area Medical (RAM) clinic—including approximately 75 students, staff and faculty from the UTC Social Work, Music Therapy, Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures, Master of Public Health and Nurse Practitioner programs and the UTC RAM Chapter student organization.
Fish hook: Study opportunities lead UTC researchers to Finland
During the summers of 2022 and 2023, UTC student Carter Jordan accompanied Guerry Professor of Biology Hope Klug to study sand goby at the Tvärminne Zoological Station, a marine station located at the entrance to the Gulf of Finland and the oldest and largest infrastructure for coastal marine research in the Baltic Sea.
Founder’s Week: UTC celebrates its 137th anniversary
Every September, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga celebrates Founder’s Week—a weeklong commemoration of the first day in the University’s history. On Sept. 15, 1886, Chattanooga University opened its doors for the first time with a teaching staff of seven and an enrollment of 118 students.
UTC welcomes largest freshman class in school history
This fall’s freshman class is the largest in University of Tennessee at Chattanooga history, according to the University’s just-recorded official census data. Overall, total headcount at UTC this fall is 11,380—a 0.9% increase from last year—comprised of 9,982 undergraduates and 1,398 graduate students.
