On Friday, Feb. 23, a University of Tennessee at Chattanooga group—consisting of faculty, staff and student Jannat Saeed—visited the UT-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Alum’s company and UTC joint research project receive grant from Oak Ridge National Laboratory
To say that injection molding is common in the world of manufacturing is underselling it. Injection molding is everywhere in manufacturing. Research now taking place at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is intended to reduce cost by 90% and reduce the time to finish the molds to about two weeks, enhancing U.S. manufacturing competitiveness.
UTC mechanical engineering researchers land Department of Energy award
The research conducted during the three-year grant period will look at how things move and change in a particular gas environment seen in many applications—such as protecting spacecraft from heat. Understanding and modeling these processes is essential for making better materials and devices.
Quantum science is soon to take its place on campus
Dr. Tian Li, an assistant professor of physics at UTC, was the featured speaker for a “Gig City Goes Quantum” presentation on April 21. Li and his fellow UTC researchers have a lot of ideas for experiments, he said, and quantum research capabilities hold great promise for students, too.
Research is pursuing quantum science’s “second revolution,” ORNL expert says
Scientists’ discovery of how quantum mechanics works is popularly described as the first “revolution” in the field. The second is still somewhere on the horizon but getting closer, according to Dr. Raphael Pooser, an Oak Ridge National Laboratory quantum physicist.
Student to present research at international scientific meeting
UTC student Carolyn Hoagland, selected as a Volkswagen Distinguished Scholar to work at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, will present her research at the 2010 Annual Meeting and International Research Conference of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society. This event will be held November 11-14 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Volkswagen selects UTC interns, featured in video
A UTC alumna and two current UTC student were selected for the Volkswagen Distinguished Scholars Program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and the three can now be seen in a new video. Jennifer Lewis, Joshua Solomon and Carolyn Hoagland were among 11 students selected by Volkswagen for the program, which began last summer. httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03qaO_tJzDY…
