Risk takers & trailblazers: UTC graduates first class in Occupational Therapy
The Lucky 13 have been a class of risk takers, guinea pigs, leaders, and trailblazers, and on May 5, they became the first group to earn a Doctorate of Occupational Therapy (OTD) at UTC.

Nursing the Nurses: Study hopes to reduce risk of injuries to nurses
Worker injuries cost the healthcare industry about $20 billion a year. Preventing injuries of all kinds is the goal of a study Dr. Chris Cunningham has started through the Department of Psychology and in collaboration with the safetyCures group of the Chattanooga Regional Health Innovation Coalition.
UTC one of first universities in Healthier Tennessee Communities effort
UTC is one of the first colleges in the state accepted into the Healthier Tennessee Communities effort. The goal of the program is to improve the overall health of Tennesseans by encouraging participants to be physically active for at least 30 minutes each week, eat a healthy diet and stop tobacco use.

Cornerstones, Inc. has established the Cornerstones Professor in Residence at UTC. Andrew Smith, local educator, architect, and preservationist is the organization’s first Professor to take on the role.
Alumna wins $25,000 Tennessee Milken Educator Award
Baker, who earned both a Bachelor of Science in early childhood education and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from UTC in 2010, is the only Milken Educator Award recipient for Tennessee and the 33rd and final honoree named nationwide for 2016-17. This season marks the 30th year of the Milken Educator Awards, hailed by Teacher magazine as the “Oscars of Teaching.”

UTC grad brings reading home for kids in need
Kelsey Butler, a recent UTC graduate, has created HomeBound, a non-profit focused on sending books home with kids who wouldn’t otherwise have access.
